A late-night traffic stop in Ottawa's south end led to the recovery of a loaded handgun and multiple arrests, according to the Ottawa Police Service.

Police said officers from the South Neighbourhood Resource Team stopped a vehicle near McCarthy Road and Paul Anka Drive shortly after 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30.

During the stop, police began an investigation related to cannabis. An adult male fled the scene, according to the Ottawa Police Service, and was located and arrested a short time later.

A youth also attempted to run from officers and resisted arrest, police said. While taking the youth into custody, officers found a loaded handgun in the youth's jacket pocket.

A second adult male and an adult female were also arrested at the scene. Police said the woman was later released without charges.
