Ottawa Catholic School Board Trustee Joanne MacEwan has received a 15-year service pin, recognizing the time and energy she has devoted to students, families and school communities over more than a decade on the board.

Board Chair Mark Mullan presented the pin to MacEwan at a recent meeting, calling attention to the milestone and her many contributions along the way, according to the Ottawa Catholic School Board.

Congratulations, Joanne! Thank you for 15 years of service, for the care you bring to your work and for continuing to make a difference in our OCSB community.

Mullan's remarks were posted on the board's website alongside the announcement of the award.

MacEwan represents Zone 5, which covers Orléans West-Innes and Beacon Hill-Cyrville. She has been acclaimed in the 2026 municipal election and will continue to represent the area in the coming term.

A deep history with Catholic education

Her ties to Catholic education stretch back well before her time as a trustee. Before joining the board, she served as co-chair of the Catholic School Parents' Association and as chair of the board's Parent Involvement Committee.

That early focus on giving parents a voice has remained central to her work as a trustee, the board said. She has represented the families and school communities of east-end Ottawa throughout her tenure.

MacEwan served as vice-chair of the board in 2016 and 2017, and has sat on several committees that shaped decisions affecting students and families across the board.

Role with student transportation

Her involvement also extends to the Ottawa Student Transportation Authority, the body that handles school busing for students in the city. There, she has held several leadership roles, including a term as president.

The board highlighted that work as another example of how she has contributed to the everyday experiences of Ottawa students and their families.

The 15-year pin is awarded to trustees in recognition of sustained service to Catholic education in Ottawa.
