Ottawa Rapid FC extended its unbeaten streak to five matches with a 3-1 win over Calgary Wild FC at TD Place Stadium on Sunday afternoon, strengthening its hold on first place in the Northern Super League.

Rapid FC (7-1-2) now sits atop the league table with 22 points, and has beaten Wild FC in both meetings between the clubs this season. Ottawa has outscored opponents 24 times this year, the best attack in the league, and holds the league's best goal differential at plus-12, according to a Rapid FC news release.

The home side controlled the play early and opened the scoring 17 minutes in, when Ottawa native Keera Melenhorst took a feed from Delaney Baie Pridham in the box, created space and fired in her fourth goal of the season. The 23-year-old has now scored in back-to-back games and has three goals in two matches against Calgary this year.

Johanne Fridlund doubled Ottawa's lead late in the first half, finishing off a backheel pass from Min-A Lee for her first goal of the season. Lee collected her second assist of the year on the play.

Calgary pulled one back in the 65th minute when Megan Dougherty-Howard converted from the penalty spot. Substitute Jazmine Wilkinson sealed the win in stoppage time, breaking in alone on a through ball from Florence Belzile and burying the rebound after her first attempt was stopped. It was Wilkinson's first goal of the year.

We are very happy with the win. Proud of the way the team showed up today. You talk about Calgary, at some point they'll get a win. They've performed better than their results have shown. We were determined that that day was not going to be today. What I was most happy about was the way our attacks came about this time. It's been a few games where we haven't created enough chances. Today we were good in our attack, we were good in the final third, we were good in combinations.

Head coach Katrine Pedersen said in the Rapid FC news release.

Offensive onslaught

Ottawa racked up 29 shots in the match, 14 of them on target, along with 14 corner kicks. Goalkeeper Melissa Dagenais made two saves.

Jyllissa Harris of Ottawa and Grace Stordy of Calgary were each shown yellow cards, in the 59th and 67th minutes respectively.

Rapid FC returns to action next weekend, travelling to face AFC Toronto at York Lions Stadium on Saturday, July 11 at 4 p.m. ET. The match will stream on TSN+ and NSL.ca, with U.S. coverage on ESPN+.
