Ottawa music fans will be heading to the RA Centre rather than Lansdowne for CityFolk this September, with the five-day festival announcing a lineup that includes Alabama Shakes, Of Monsters and Men, Alice Cooper and the Sex Pistols.
The festival is scheduled for Sept. 16–20. Apartment613 reported that ongoing construction at Lansdowne prompted organizers to move this year’s event to the RA Centre grounds.
The change brings another music festival to a site that hosted Escapade last year. CityFolk previously took place at Mooney’s Bay under its former name, the Ottawa Folk Festival, before its time at Lansdowne.
For those planning which days to attend, the announced program spans rock, country and folk, with different headliners across the five nights. There are 33 artists announced so far, according to Apartment613.
Five nights of music
Alabama Shakes will open the festival on Wednesday, Sept. 16. Marcus King is also part of the opening-day lineup.
Thursday’s program puts country music in the spotlight, with Juno winner Cameron Whitcomb headlining on Sept. 17. Stella Lefty is among the other performers scheduled for that day.
Switchfoot and Third Eye Blind are on the bill for Friday, Sept. 18, bringing two acts associated with the rock music of the 1990s and 2000s to the festival.
Of Monsters and Men will headline Saturday, Sept. 19. The band is among the acts announced for a festival program that also includes folk and related styles.
Alice Cooper and the Sex Pistols are scheduled for the closing day on Sunday, Sept. 20. Bad Nerves and Panic Shack will also perform as part of Sunday’s rock lineup.
Folk acts across the festival
Beyond the daily headliners, the announced performers include Pokey LaFarge, Amigo The Devil and The White Buffalo. Apartment613 described folk and related acts as making up much of the second-stage program.
Those performers are spread across the festival rather than confined to a single themed day. Together with the country and rock bookings, they form a program extending over all five days at CityFolk’s new Ottawa venue.
