The Ottawa Police Service is joining police services across Ontario in recognizing Crime Prevention Week, which runs from Nov. 1 to Nov. 7, 2026.
This year's provincial theme is "Protecting Ontario Together," an approach that emphasizes the role everyone plays in building safer communities, according to an Ottawa Police Service news release issued Monday.
Police, residents, businesses, schools and community organizations all have a part to play in recognizing risks, taking preventative action and looking out for one another, the release said.
Prevention can take many forms, the service noted, including securing homes and vehicles, protecting personal and financial information from fraud, recognizing suspicious activity, and taking part in the crime prevention programs the Ottawa Police Service offers.
"Protecting our city isn't something police can do in isolation, it takes a synchronized effort from every corner of our community," said Sergeant Barmak Anvari of the Ottawa Police Service Crime Prevention Unit. "By highlighting 'Protecting Ontario Together', we are reminding residents that safety starts with looking out for one another and working hand-in-hand with local law enforcement to keep Ottawans safe."
The comments came in an Ottawa Police Service news release marking the start of the week.
Officers out in the community
During Crime Prevention Week, members of the OPS Crime Prevention Unit will be out in the community and visiting local post-secondary campuses to connect with residents, students and local leaders.
The service is encouraging residents and business owners to build proactive safety measures into their daily routines.
Comprehensive crime prevention programs, safety toolkits and other resources are available through the Ottawa Police Service at ottawapolice.ca/crimeprevention, the release said.
Tools for residents
Residents can also view, download and interact with data released by the Ottawa Police Service through the Community Safety Data portal at data.ottawapolice.ca.
The service is also asking residents to register their information and security camera locations at CAMSafe.ca to support investigations.
Crime Prevention Week runs through Saturday, Nov. 7.
